SUCCESS STORIES

MEET VIOLET

In January of 2017, Ms. Irene met a woman named Violet through a community worker working with ( PWD) people living with disabilities. Violet has a 9 year old son and 13 year old daughter who has Cerebral Palsy.  Her husband is very supportive and works in boda boda (a transportation service via bicycle). Violet explained how she never used to bring her child outside for fear of discrimination. At the time, she wanted to improve and add value to her life by studying sewing. However, she felt that she could not start sewing because she had no one to help her take care of her daughter. In January of 2017, Violet made the decision to join Oasis's sewing program. She enjoyed the program because it allowed her to study sewing with her child, have porridge provision, and feel included. Today, Violet is an amazing bag designer. Her son was also given a school sponsorship through the no ordinary women.org.

Today, Violet smiles her way through life.

MEET JEFF, ERIC, AND SAMMY

Their mother, Miriam, was an Oasis woman who frequently engaged with the Oasis community. In 2019, Miriam passed away sadly and left the boys without a parent as their father was not present. Growing up an orphan herself, Miriam never wanted her children to struggle in similar ways. Her sisters offered to take the boys in; but they were still having trouble finding a school to provide a good education. With the help of No Ordinary Women, Oasis was able to find full scholarships for the boys to attend school. All three of them are currently attending private school and continue learning new things every day.
